Social and Economic Vitality

Wake County Social and Economic Vitality (SEV) is a long-term investment and partnership with Wake County Human Services and N.C. Cooperative Extension – Wake County Center for community revitalization built on amplifying community voice, stimulating community wellness, promoting educational advancement, expanding economic opportunity, and ultimately reducing poverty in Southeast Raleigh and Eastern Wake County.

Engagement

Social and Economic Vitality fosters relationship-building and collaboration among residents and community partners through community events that are no cost to residents. In Southeast Raleigh, the Crosby Advocacy Group, Residents’ Meetings and Action Teams provide regular opportunities for residents and partners to exchange information about critical community concerns and work together to address challenges through shared resources and solutions

Education

SEV provides ongoing opportunities for residents to build knowledge and skills to make positive changes in their lives, neighborhoods, and the broader community. In 2018, educational programming was provided on a variety of topics, including nutrition education, physical activity, computer literacy, STEM, stress reduction, mental wellness, responsible fatherhood, and more!

Economic Opportunity

SEV works extensively with community partners to ensure that residents have access to the tools and support they need to create their desired level of self-sufficiency. Life coaching and preventative services are available to help individuals reach goals related to family, finances, housing, and more; while soft skills and job training programs help residents to get career-ready. Through efforts like the Southeast Raleigh Innovation Challenge, SEV works to create a culture of entrepreneurship and support community members interested in a path to self-employment

The Crosby-Garfield Center located at 569 E. Lenoir St in Raleigh is the home base for Social and Economic Vitality, providing residents and community partners with a wide range of opportunities to connect, learn, and grow.
